Product Features
A typical application would include the ION chassis, an ION management module, and a redundant power supply. A variety of Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet fiber conversion modules are also available to meet customers’ specific network requirements. All slide-in modules are designed to help network managers reduce the cost of their fiber integration projects by protecting the investments made in current copper based devices, while still allowing them to experience the benefits offered by fiber optic cabling. The faceplates on the slide-in modules have an attractive brushed nickel finish that provides a durable service life while still being RoHS compliant.
Network Management
With the growing demand for network up-time, the use of a management module in the ION chassis is essential. The management module allows users to remotely monitor the current operating status of each slide-in module. Each module has an extensive set of features and functions that can be controlled. A network administrator can securely configure, monitor, and troubleshoot ION slide-in-modules remotely through a web-browser, a command line interface (CLI), via telnet, or with a third party SNMP application. Each slot in the ION chassis is numbered so users can quickly identify individual cards after monitoring them through the management interface. Secure access control to the management module is provided by support for management VLAN, SSH, SSL, 802.1x. and SNMPv1 and v2.
Power Supplies
The power supply modules are fully manageable. Both 100 – 240 VAC and -48VDC power supplies are available. While only one power supply is needed to power a fully loaded ION chassis, the option of a second power supply offers redundancy by functioning in an instant fail-over mode of operation. Power supply status LEDs are mounted on the frame of the ION chassis to provide at-a-glance information while keep the slots free for conversion modules.
Backwards Compatibility
While The ION Platform offers new levels for remote management, security, and control, providing backwards compatibility to Transition Networks’ Point System installed base is a key feature customers will appreciate. By using the ION Adapter on the Point System management modules and the Point System converter modules, customers are able to install and manage their Point System devices in the ION chassis, thus preserving the investment in their current Transition Network products.
Product Configuration
The initial release of The ION Platform will include the following products:
