GEM and XGEM Network Emulators

Anue Systems, the market and technology leader in network delay and impairment emulation, is now shipping its new GEM (one Gbps) and XGEM (ten Gbps) multi-profile Network Emulators. For customers working with IP and Ethernet, GEM and XGEM make testing more real-world and more effective.

The GEM enables users to emulate up to 64 different network flows per system (XGEM handles up to 8 network flows). A Network Profile can be defined by any combination of VLAN tag, MPLS label, MAC or IP address, TCP port or any other information up to 2000 bytes deep within the Ethernet frame. Each Network Profile can have its own distinct delay, impairment, traffic shaping and/or QoS profile. Types of impairments include static delay, jitter, packet drops, bandwidth rate limiting (policing), bit errors, reorder, duplication and corruption.

Early GEM customers include those developing, testing and deploying Video IP, VoIP, TCP acceleration, remote storage and other applications that depend on converged IP and Ethernet networks. Network emulators assist with development, design, system verification, proof of concept, interoperability testing, sales demonstrations and problem replication. Combined with a traffic generator and analyzer, GEM & XGEM help ensure that products, services and applications are ready for production.

As with all Anue Emulators, GEM & XGEM are full line rate capable with the industry’s highest precision and accuracy. They also have the ability to dynamically change each Network Profile’s delay and impairment characteristics without disrupting traffic and without having to stop/start the test. This simplifies testing, easily allowing full characterization of performance over a wide range of impairment conditions. GEM/XGEM supports a Tcl API for 100% automation and can be combined with software loads for other protocols, such as SONET/SDH and Fibre Channel on the same platform.

Anue Emulators support Ethernet, SONET/SDH, OTN, CPRI and Fibre Channel interfaces up to 11.3Gbps.
